Lung and Other Cancers Now Part of Electronic Health Records Accessed by Via Pathways

Flatiron Health and Via Oncology recently announced that Via Pathways, a tool to streamline workflow and patient care, has added a number of cancers — non-small cell and small-cell lung, rectal mesothelioma, prostate, breast, colon, and multiple myeloma — to Flatiron Health’s OncoEMR electronic health record (EHR). Via Pathways for other tumors will be added to the record later in the year.

According to a press release, OncoEMR and OncoAnalytics are part of the Flatiron Health OncologyCloud software suite, which features advanced cloud-based oncology software to support the continuum of cancer care. OncoEMR is a cloud-based electronic health record (EHR), designed specifically for medical oncologists, that offers pathways and regimen content as well as partner-supported programs and content. OncoAnalytics is an analytics tool that unlocks data from multiple systems, with insights into business, operational, clinical and financial metrics.

“Using Via Pathways directly in OncoEMR brings real time evidence-based decision support to our clinicians at the point of care. Additionally, this fully integrated model saves time by avoiding duplicate data entry,” Frank Senecal, MD, Northwest Medical Specialties, said in the release. Northwest Medical Specialties was the first clinical site using Via Pathways in OncoEMR.

The collaboration between Flatiron Health and Via Oncology enables oncologists using OncoEMR and licensing Via Pathways to select the appropriate regimens within their clinical workflow, report on pathways adherence directly within OncoEMR, and utilize pathways to take part in reimbursement models.

Kathy Lokay, president and CEO of Via Oncology, added, “By leveraging PathBuildR, our dynamic content authoring tool, and Flatiron Health’s industry-leading cloud-based software platform, our mutual customers can stay up to date with the most current Via Pathways.”

“We heard from providers across the country that there was a desire to bring pathways directly into the EHR,” said Robert J. Green, MD, senior vice president, Clinical Oncology, Flatiron Health. “As a result, our engineering and clinical teams developed software to fully embed the Via Pathways decision support tool within OncoEMR and help providers improve efficiency and standardize treatment selection across patients and diseases. By utilizing Via Pathways in OncoEMR, providers have a mechanism to demonstrate adherence to evidence-based care and participate in value-based care programs.”

Flatiron Health’s will soon unveil the new OncoCloud Suite, a next-generation cloud-based oncology software product.
