Munich, Germany based TomTec Imaging Systems GmbH’s 4D RV-Function software has been developed to give clinicians a comprehensive evaluation of the right ventricle including volumes and strain analysis. Because pulmonary hypertension often impacts the right ventricle in both adult and pediatric cardiology, the launch of TomTec’s new technology gives medical practitioners valuable, new diagnostic and prognostic tools for treating those with PH.

4D RV-Function provides key data sets, including EDV, ESV, RVEF, SV, RVLS, TAPSE and FAC. Distance measurements can also be analyzed using the software. Specifically, the platform delivers quick and reproducible analyses of the right ventricle, thereby increasing diagnostic confidence by visualizing the complexity of the RV shape in 3D.

Other key clinical benefits of the software include an automatic contour proposal no laborious manual contour drawing; right ventricle longitudinal strain for septum and free wall analysis; the ability for imaging professionals to store individualized acquisition windows to save navigation time and save bookmarks for clinical follow-ups; guideline generation conforming 2D measurements automatically with every 3D analysis; 3D measurement results in RV EDV, ESV, EF, and SV formats;  2D measurement results in TAPSE, Distances, and FAC formats; and additional strain values, such as RVLS free.

It also features the two-minutes tool for right ventricle analysis and quick and reproducible results, which allows doctors and imaging professionals to increase diagnostic confidence by providing visuals of the complex RV shape in 3D. It also calculates right ventricular data based on a complex 3D surface model. The fact that the software can provide a validated right ventricle model can be particularly efficacious for pulmonary hypertension.

“With our innovative 4D RV-Function software you can visualize the true RV geometry! Our 4D RV-Function will save you time and money by combining our long-lasting experience with the right ventricle 3D model and an easy, user-friendly 4 step workflow. says Gregor Malischnig, Chief Marketing Officer at TomTec Imaging Systems in a release.

TomTec says it worked with leading cardiologists and paediatricians to develop this application in order to meet growing demand for automation and more accurate quantification of the right ventricular function. The company notes that 4D RV-Function continues to play a pivotal role in both adult and paediatric cardiology (e.g. pulmonary hypertension, congestive heart failure, congenital heart disease, hypoplastic right heart), where it has proved to be a major clinical outcome determinant.

*4D RV-Function is a module of TomTec-Arena. The product will be released and can be purchased in Europe in January 2015. For availability in further countries contact TomTec at:
